Spring Impro Masterclass 🎭

Improvisation can bring about all kinds of amazing states in us. It brightens colors, perks our awareness, develops a flow state, and can bring out performances we didn’t even know we had inside. A moment on stage with another actor can be a lush world in which new experiences are genuinely had, not simply pantomimed. Over 8 weeks, we'll hone our skills as worldbuilders as we dive into the depths of spontaneity, beyond comedy, beyond even the stage.

If you’re seeking a course that will make you a more authentic performer, a more confident socializer, relight your inner creative fire, and give you a deeper knowledge of yourself and the people around you, look no further. If you’ve seen impro’s ability to free the inner child and be an effective therapy, just wait until you see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

We’ll start with Impro’s origins in the theater games of Viola Spolin, then venture into the tradition of Webster’s Atlanta school, a tradition of directed short form games. After that, we’ll experiment with new techniques, using scene work to transmute difficult emotions, express a declaration of protest, divine answers from our subconscious, and ask ourselves what else we could do with this artform. We’ll carry that energy into the final two weeks where we explore ways of hosting and performing a live improvised show based on the strengths of the group.
